Modern Sensuality

For our latest instalment of Modern Sensuality, we visited author, wellbeing expert and Inner Landing founder Rebecca Moore, at her Northwest London studio and wellness space. We spent the day together to explore how she brings sensuality into her daily life, through her own powerful rituals and creative practices.

Based in London, Moore’s early career was headed in a different trajectory than what we see today: working as a makeup artist to becoming founder of IDOL magazine for almost ten years, she later took a hiatus to focus on healing after experiencing burnout and stress-related health issues. Since then, she trained in physical and spiritual modalities — from yoga to Bodywork, Aromatherapy and Nutrition — working with private clients and delivering community based classes. Fast forward to today, she dedicates her life to healing practices that are the true embodiment of what we like to call Modern Sensuality.

“For me, sensuality is all about slowing down, coming back to the beauty of simplicity and stillness in a world that is non-stop.”

A deep gratitude for time and space is something Moore truly values: “In moments of chaos or overwhelm, I am often in my head. We spend so much time in the control towers of our minds and coming back into my body is an opportunity to come back into the present moment,” she notes. “I love to move my body in a structural way when I'm practicing yoga but sometimes, I just like to put music on and allow my body to move in the way that it wants to move,’ she says. ‘Embodiment is also a way of being somatic which basically means allowing the body to take the lead rather than our minds or what other people maybe instructing us to do,’ she adds.

“When I come into contact with my body in an intentional way it really offers a sense of self-love and self-appreciation.”

A physical connection with her body is one of many self-practices she has embedded into her life: “The gift of self-touch is something I feel like we all need to be more aware of and connected to. When I oil my skin, it gives me a feeling of deep self-nurturance,’ she says. ‘I see the body as a temple and a forever home that I am so privileged to be able to live in and so for me, I take great pleasure in adorning my body in beautiful things and nourishing my body in beautiful ways,” she adds.

“Prioritizing centrality and pleasure for me means taking time out of even the busiest days to pause and take a moment for myself, whether that is to sit with tea or to meditate.”

Pleasure is woven into her practices, to regulate her state and ensure she doesn’t experience burnout from her career a second time: ‘Meditation has really changed my life. It’s an opportunity every single day to sit with myself and be in my own energy before I put myself out into the world around me,’ she notes. ‘Meditation can feel like a warm hug it can feel also confronting it depends what day it is and what is I'm experiencing at that time,’ she adds. ‘Breathwork gives me an opportunity to analyse the way that I'm feeling, if I want to feel energized I can speed my breath up and if I want to come into more of a calming and meditative state, I can slow the breath down. I can expand my breathing in order to feel more and expand my sense of pleasure,’ she adds.

“Bluebella really allows me to reconnect to a sense of femininity and to connect to my deep sensuality.”

Running a business a female founder demands many layers of Moore’s being: ‘I feel soft and strong; I feel powerful in my everyday, running my own business sometimes and at times I can be disconnected from those parts of myself but they are so important to come back to and to nourish,’ she notes. ‘Sometimes I choose to wear something that feels really sensual and feminine to enhance my spiritual practice or for empowering myself… when I wear Bluebella I feel powerful,’ she adds.
